The Swiss AI Initiative aims to build national capacity in trustworthy large-scale AI systems, leveraging Switzerland’s top AI research institutions, a world-class GPU supercomputing infrastructure, and a commitment to open science. The initiative focuses on developing foundation models and advancing safe, efficient, and socially aligned AI technologies with significant impact for the Swiss and global community.
The 3rd Call of the Swiss AI Intiative - Large Grant is now open.
Applicants must submit a short declaration of intent by 17 August, 2026 (17:00 CEST).
The declaration of intent includes the tentative proposal title, short abstract (250 words max.), and preliminary team composition.

Duration: 1 year
Support includes:
- Access to the CSCS Alps supercomputing infrastructure (projects may request more than 500K GPU hours)
- In addition to compute hours, applicants can exceptionally request funding for personnel and research costs up to a maximum amount of 200k CHF.
- Dedicated engineering support from the Swiss AI Initiative team (48 FTE-months total across all projects)
Expected outcomes:
Open and trustworthy AI artifacts (e.g. models, software, data) with high societal impact and clear alignment with open science principles and responsible innovation.
